A friend mentioned that she was having trouble finding the right inspiration for a jungle-themed big-kid room for her adorable son, which naturally sounded like my kind of challenge. I could see why she couldn’t find what she wanted. Everything I found easily was simple green and brown with cartoon jungle animals which is cute, but not that something special she wanted for her elegant home. Finally, I found Peter’s Room by ZoyaB. It’s the perfect inspiration for that high-end-yet-kid-friendly look.
My next challenge, finding the look on a budget that won’t effect the kid’s college fund. I love the soft stripes on the wall and the hand-painted details throughout the room. The furniture is all designer and custom (read $$$$$$$), but there are always great options at different price points with a little creative searching.
This gorgeous sleigh-bed style crib is a statement piece. Although it’s not inexpensive, it’s moderately priced and will convert to a toddler bed and day bed later so you will get plenty of use out of it. Available on Amazon.com. A similar, more budget-friendly version is available here.
I am so in love with plush rocking “horse” animals. We had the giraffe version in our nursery and our girls would hug him while rocking. This bear rocking “horse” animal is well made and reasonably priced on Amazon.com.
This amazing large plush giraffe was one of the first things we bought for our nursery and it’s still a family favorite. In my opinion, this giraffe should be worked into any nursery, not just a jungle one. His expression is so sweet and gentle and kids love it. I may have bought ours since my mother never allowed such an enormous animal in my room, but it was a great purchase that is well-loved and well-made. How adorable is this animal print kids recliner? Plus, it’s budget friendly and Amazon.com has it at a great discount. If cheetah print is a bit too wild for your little jungle, this chair is also available in a soft brown.
The glider in the original room is an expensive custom piece, but a basic glider like this one can be dressed up with a throw pillow or a blanket. If you go wild on the kid’s rocker above, this classic glider will compliment it well.
Speaking of throw pillows, how adorable are these mother and baby zebra pillows? I love that they are sweet without screaming “baby”. These are available on Amazon.com.
For baby’s bed (or chair), how amazing is this super-soft plush giraffe pillow? This looks like the sort of thing my kids would snuggle with and feel while settling down for a nap or bedtime. Found it on Amazon.com.
The inspiration room has simple tan sheets (you can get some amazingly soft tan chenille sheets), but I’m loving these simple giraffe print sheets. Don’t be afraid to skip the pre-packaged bedding sets. The most amazing crib, toddler, and big kid bed sets are pieced together from separate pieces. This print is available in a crib/toddler bed sheet and a crib needing set; a similar plain & stripped version is available for a twin bed alone or in a set.
We are loving wall-mount bed canopies at our house, just check out Chloe & Cora‘s rooms. These simple hanging drapery holders can be tricky to find and super pricey (many we fond were $300+!), but Amazon.com came through as usual. Just don’t forget to purchase a set of simple curtains to complete the look.
Okay, so these aren’t in the original room inspiration, but I had to share. How adorable are these “curtain critter” animal curtain tie-backs? They come in a variety of options: giraffe/elephant (shown), lions, elephant/monkey, monkeys, elephants, elephant/lion, and even more including dogs, cats, butterflies, and lambs.

Peter’s room above has gorgeous hand-painted animals adorning the walls. For the same look on a budget, there are jungle & safari animal wall decals that are more life-like and less “baby store” that your kiddo will enjoy well beyond baby-hood. But wait, don’t use them all on the wall, you’ll need to save some favorites for the next item…
To get the look of Peter’s gorgeous hand-painted dresser, you have some easy DIY options. Find a simple dresser with a flat front like this one (shown above) and add your favorite animal decals to the front. Paint the top a bold chocolate color and add giraffe decals to the side for an amazing DIY version of this stunning dresser. If you want to add a toy chest, you can do a similar DIY there as well.
Loving the lamp? It’s doing double-duty as a soft light and practical table. I couldn’t find the exact lamp, but love how this one is more sturdy than the original with extra spots for storage, which there is never enough of ever.
A simple rug ties all of the wild elements of this room together. A simple seagrass rug would also be a great option for this room and would add another layer of texture.
For artwork, consider printing some of your favorite animal artwork and framing it at home with craft store frames. I have also framed pictures out of books and magazines. A used book store can yield some great finds.
Don’t forget to add plenty of themed plush animals! If your house is anything like ours, you’ll accumulate them quickly so encourage/lobby for choices that tie into the room and find a great place to display them.
