A New Roof: Long Term Investing With Style

So you’ve decided that it is time to make a lasting investment in your home’s appearance and quality with a new, modern roof. That’s great news! By installing a new roof, you’ll save money while substantially increasing the value of your home.

Did you know that your insurance company might help foot the bill? Ok, not completely- but many insurance companies will offer you a discount on your homeowner’s premiums if you install an impact resistant roof. You may find some tax incentives too. A new roof will also improve your home’s energy efficiency and increase its value. Some estimates indicate that a new roof generates a 75% return on investment when a home is sold.

Regardless of the incentives, roof replacement is a fact of life. Roofs take a beating, literally. Rain, hail, wind and ice, all do their worst to the covering that protects your most precious possessions. Trees provide wonderful shade for your home but can also beat against your roof or come crashing down in a storm. That lovely green moss growing in the shady spots of your roof isn’t doing it any favors either. Even with just normal wear and tear, most roofs have an expiration date. Once your roof has exceeded its expected lifespan, things can start to go wrong.

If you need to get started on your roof replacement plan, the infographic below is the perfect way to get yourself up to speed. As you can see, there are lots of roofing materials to choose from and each has its own benefits.

If you select a slate roof, you can stop worrying about expiration dates. Once your home has the correct supports in place to hold this substantial material, it will add beauty and durability for years to come. For something out of the ordinary, select a clay tile or wooden shake roof. Each one offers unique design possibilities to provide your home with shelter and flair. Additional materials to choose from include concrete tiles or metal sheeting as well as the traditional asphalt shingle.

Whatever your style and budget, make sure to receive professional advice on materials, installation and ventilation. You are making an investment in your home’s future, make sure it is a solid one.

In the infographic below, John Anderson of Severe Weather Roofing and Restoration in Loveland CO, helps you easily understand the most important aspects of your roof.

Love the infographic! I’ll have to save it for recommendations. Roofing isn’t really our specialty, but people do ask our opinions from time to time. It’ll be nice to have something to refer them to.

Best infographic ever on roofing! This explains every thing about roof like different parts of the roof, roofing material, elements of the nature that affect the roof etc. Even a 1000 words article could not have explained roofing so effectively.

I didn’t realize that your insurance company might offer some type of discount if you install an impact resistant shingle. My husband and I are close to putting on offer on a home that we’d love to move into. It’s a great home but it has an old 3-tab shingle on it currently. It looks a little old and I’ve seen a few missing shingles too. If we do end up getting the house, I’ll have to look into having a reputable, experienced, and licensed roofing contractor come out to install a new roof. I’ll have to look into any discounts that might be offered based on a certain type of shingle while I’m at it. Thanks for the insight!
